Weather Prospects for the Eclipse

The path of the eclipse on March 29, 2006 begins in the tropical climate of north-eastern Brazil, south of the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) leaving Brazil, the shadow path curves slowly northward across the Atlantic and then turns more sharply as it reaches the African coast in Ghana.

Scientists in Ghana have found it necessary to bring the phenomenon to the attention of Ghanaians because of its significance to both human and animal life. The National Aeronautic Space Agency (NASA) has already predicted that the phenomenon is capable of completely bringing activities across five regions to a halt with most “going to sleep” between 0908 hours 0911 hours. Mythology and literature of cultures had viewed eclipses with trepidation.

Ancient Chinese and Indians perceived the eclipse of the Sun as a dragon with the Chinese usually attempting to ward off the phenomenon by beating drums. While in Jamaica, the famous explorer Christopher Columbus was reported to have mesmerized the people over an eclipse with threats that he was capable of conjuring darkness, knowing well that an eclipse was eminent.
